A CAERNARFON café that closed due to the cost-of-living crisis has reopened following investment from members of the community.

Caffi Perthyn, located at 25 B4366 in Bethel was an extremely successful café in the village, before the cost-of-living crisis left the business facing “challenges”, leading to its closure at the end of the Covid-19 lockdown.

The owner appealed to members of the community to help it reopen, and they delivered.

Hoping to prevent Bethel from becoming “a soulless place without a social heart”, a small community group of volunteers came together to establish Menter Perthyn Cymunedol, forming a steering committee at the time.

The café reopened yesterday (January 12), welcoming plenty of customers back to the village hub.

An expansion has seen a traditional Welsh community shop, in a language and ethos for the good of the community and for the pleasure of anyone who wishes to enter through its doors.

A Perthyn spokesperson said the reopening had been “great”.
