NORTH Wales Police are appealing for information after five sheep are believed to have been 'slaughtered' after being reported missing on Anglesey.

It comes after a lamb’s skin was found discarded in a field in Hafon Onnen, Rhosgoch on Monday, 5 December.

Four other sheep from the field are currently missing, and the incident is understood to have taken place sometime over the weekend.

There are concerns the sheep have been slaughtered to be sold on for human consumption, police said.

PCSO Rhys Evans of North Wales Police said: “The skin of one of the lambs has been found in the field, but the body was not present at the scene.

“This doesn’t look like an attack by another animal - the skin appears to have been cut from the lamb’s body with a knife, and by someone who knows how to skin an animal, as the cutting is very clean and straight.

“It appears a person has entered the land, skinned the lamb and taken the body to sell.”

PCSO Evans is appealing to anybody who is offered cheap meat not to accept it, and to report it to police immediately.

He added: “Any meat that is suitable for human consumption needs to have followed rigorous meat processing rules and regulations and anything that has not complied with the regulations is unsafe to consume.
