YNYS Môn MP Virginia Crosbie joined an Anglesey farmer when he presented a leg of lamb to the Prime Minister during a Downing Street reception.

Peter Williams went to Number 10 with Mrs Crosbie for the event on Tuesday, 11 October to celebrate British lamb farmers after receiving an invitation.

The meat has just been exported to the United States for the first time in two decades.

Peter owns Plas Land in Bryngwran and is chairman of the Anglesey Show, and gave the PM a leg of Damara fat tailed lamb.

“I was proud to accompany Peter to the reception celebrating our brilliant British lamb and be there when he gave a leg to Liz Truss,” said Mrs Crosbie.

“It was quite a moment and she seemed very pleased indeed. But importantly, this event took place to show that British lamb exports are rising and new markets are being entered.

“We have top-quality lamb here on Anglesey and that is good for the island and good for the UK when it ends up on dinner tables across the world.”

Peter added: “I have farmed sheep on Anglesey for over forty years and we introduced Damara fat tailed sheep into the UK in 2019.

"It is a completely new breed bringing a completely new eating experience and is regularly used in traditional Arab cuisine.

“I hope the Prime Minister enjoys the lamb. She was very appreciative when I presented it to her.”
