A NOODLE bar that was once one of Bangor’s most popular places to eat has been shortlisted for a restaurant of the year award – three years after being destroyed in a fire.

Noodle One, which was situated at the top of the High Street, first opened in 2007 and became a popular choice for the city’s residents and students with its Japanese, Thai and Indonesian dishes.

However, a fire broke out in the early hours of December 17, 2019, destroying the business and its neighbour Morgan’s, a clothing shop.

Despite being held up by scaffolding for more than a year, the building was demolished in 2021, leaving an empty space on the High Street.

This has not stopped the restaurant from somehow being nominated for this year’s Welsh Restaurant Awards, one of ten establishments on the shortlist for Thai Restaurant of the Year.

It is the only one from North Wales, despite having been closed for the best part of three years.

the winners will be announced at a black-tie ceremony in Cardiff this month, with tickets for the event now on sale.

There are more than 30 categories at the awards, from Fish and Chip Shop of the Year to Lebanese Restaurant of the Year.

The finalists represent "the gold standard" of restaurants in Wales and stand out in part due to their "lively atmosphere", according to the organisers.

It remains unclear how Noodle One - a restaurant that no longer exists - has been nominated at this year's awards.
