THE MP for Ynys Môn, Virginia Crosbie, said she was “thrilled” to have the Prince and Princess of Wales visit the island yesterday (September 27).

It was the first time that their Royal Highnesses, William and Catherine, have visited Wales since becoming Prince and Princess of the country.

They arrived at about 12.15pm to visit the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)’s station in Holyhead.

There, they met crew members, volunteers and some of those who have been supported by their unit.

Mrs Crosbie, as well as Ynys Môn MS, Rhun ap Iorwerth, was also in attendance.

Theo Crompton, four, then presented flowers to them, before they made the short walk to the neighbouring Holyhead Marine and Café Bar.

William and Catherine spent just more than an hour in Holyhead, before leaving to visit Swansea.

Mrs Crosbie said: “I am thrilled the Prince and Princess of Wales came to Anglesey for their first official visit to the country using their new titles.

“I know the prince and princess have a deep affection for Ynys Môn from their time living here as a young newly-married couple.

“They were taken into the hearts of islanders who were impressed with how normal the family were, happily supermarket shopping, and how grateful everyone around the coast was to have the prince working so hard to save lives as a search and rescue pilot.

“I was able to have a few words and give my condolences to their Royal Highnesses about the loss of Queen Elizabeth on behalf of Ynys Môn.”
