NORTH Wales Police have received reports of illegal metal detecting at Segontium Roman Fort, just outside Caernarfon.

Police have asked the public to report any such activity to them immediately, after receiving reports about “night hawking” taking place at the first century ruins.

A North Wales Police Rural Crime Team spokesperson said: “We have received reports of night hawking at Segontium Fort, Caernarfon.

“Night hawking is the practice of illegal metal detecting at protected heritage sights.

“Hawkers have been digging at the site and we would ask that you report any such activity to us.”
