SAM Rowlands, MS for North Wales, and Virginia Crosbie, MP for Ynys Môn, want to see new nuclear at Wylfa in the north of Anglesey.

The original Wylfa nuclear power station is situated west of Cemaes Bay on Anglesey, and was constructed in 1963.

It is being decommissioned and there are plans to provide a new power plant at a new site adjacent to the former power station.

UK Government reiterates plans for Wylfa nuclear plant on Anglesey

Mr Rowlands, Welsh Conservative and a member of the Welsh Parliament, was speaking during a visit to the Wylfa site on Anglesey.

He said: “It was great to have the opportunity to visit the Wylfa site and to hear about the potential positive plans for its future.

“Wylfa was specifically mentioned in the UK Government’s new British Energy Security Strategy.

“New nuclear at Wylfa would be very welcome not only for the people of Anglesey but across North Wales in terms of job opportunities.

“The new power station is a great source of energy and I would be delighted to see it up and running.”

Mrs Crosbie added: “It is great news that the UK Government is considering new nuclear at Wylfa and I am doing everything I can to make this happen.

“New nuclear at Wylfa would create much needed skilled employment, boost our energy security strategy and help deliver net zero.”
