GRESFORD ATHLETIC boss Eddie Maurice-Jones says the intense heat won’t affect his side’s gameplan at home Mold Alex tonight.

Despite being an evening kick-off, the heat will still be on as temperatures expect to hit 25C at the 7pm kick-off time.

“It won’t affect our tactics,” said Maurice-Jones, whose side are on a high after flooring Cymru North champions Airbus 2-1 in the Welsh League Cup.

“If it’s an hour they can give us, then it’s an hour. We will have fresh legs on the bench.

“I would rather have lads who worked their socks off from the start.”

The Gresford boss wants to repeat their cup exploits, adding: “The lads were excellent and I can’t fault anyone.

“Looking back at the game, there’s only little things we have pulled out for improvement. They did everything we asked for.

“We know we can improve lads if they’re buying into it and wanting to learn.

“We are part-time, but when they are here with us, if they give us maximum effort you will get your rewards.

“The commitment we are getting in training is full numbers.”

Mold Alex manager Mike Cunningham knows his side will have to match Gresford’s hard-work ethic if they are going to get anything from the game.

Alex bounced back from a 4-0 opening day defeat at Guilsfield by thumping Llanidloes Town 4-0 at Alyn Park three days later.

Now they want to repeat that performance at Clappers Lane tonight where Daf Griffiths returns but Dom Doherty and Haci Ozlu miss out.

“That’s the plan!” said Cunningham when asked if they could reproduce the display against Llanidloes that saw goals from Shaun Tinsley, Steve Watkins and a Callum Freeman double.

“The lads were excellent against Llanidloes but Gresford will be tough as they come into it off the back of a couple of good wins themselves.

“Eddie’s teams are always hardworking and fully committed and we need to make sure we match that to get a positive result.”

Maurice-Jones, who is without Nathan Williams and Dominic Deacon, knows Mold will be fighting every step of the way

“It’s going to be a difficult game, like every game,” he added. “With teams coming up, you don’t know a lot about them.

“They have got the confidence as the pressure isn’t on them.

“They’re always tough those teams coming up because they offer something different.”
