Sesiwn Fawr was held this past weekend, with thousands returning to the popular folk festival in Dolgellau, marking the festival’s 30th anniversary.

The bilingual music festival attracts some of the Welsh music scene’s biggest artists, as well as artists from all over the world.

This year, 58 artists performed across 9 stages at various locations throughout Dolgellau - including Yws Gwynedd, N’famady Kouyate, Tara Bandito, NoGood Boyo, Truckstop Honeymoon, The Trials of Cato and world-renowned Scottish folk band - Skerryvore.

North Wales Chronicle:

Saturday night’s headlining artist, Yws Gwynedd, said: “Sesiwn Fawr will always have a special place in my heart. It has given me amazing experiences as a young artist to perform at a professional international festival. We will be forever grateful to the festival organisers for allowing us to be there for their 30-year celebrations, and hope to celebrate another 30 years of the Sesiwn Fawr!”

The festival is organised by a committee of local volunteers, many of whom have been involved from day one.

One of the festival's founders and longstanding committee member, Ywain Myfyr, said: “It was great to welcome everyone back to the Sesiwn Fawr after a two-year virtual break. Everyone arrived with a wide smile that grew with every performance from this year’s eclectic line-up.

"As well as lifting everyone’s spirits, the weekend has also been a welcomed hub to the local economy after a difficult couple of years due to the pandemic. I hope we can look forward to the next 30 years with the same confidence.”

There will be an opportunity to take a look back at Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau 2022 in a special 90-minute highlight program on S4C on Saturday July 23.
