YNYS Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has stepped down from her role as a government aide and called for the Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s resignation.

Mrs Crosbie, who has served as MP for the Isle of Anglesey since 2019, also served as Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Welsh Office, but says the Prime Minister’s response to the latest party scandal concerning the Deputy Chief Whip’s conduct was the “final straw”, adding that Mr Johnson’s position was now “untenable”.

In a public letter to the Prime Minister informing him of her resignation, Mrs Crosbie said she “cannot continue to defend your [Mr Johnson’s] actions to my Ynys Môn constituents who are rightly very angry”.

The news follows Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid both announcing their resignations yesterday, in the aftermath of the allegations of misconduct by Deputy Chief Whip Chris Pincher.

Mrs Crosbie’s letter went on to say the Prime Minister could not be “trusted to tell the truth”, adding that could “never be a position to inhabit for anyone in public life, let alone a Prime Minister”.

She ended the letter by calling for Mr Johnson’s resignation, saying he could “serve it [the country] one last time by leaving office”.
