North Wales Police have warned residents to be cautious of a Father Day scams via whatsapp and text messages.

The North Wales Police Cyber Crime unit, alongside others all over the country, have recieved reports of suspicious whatsapp messages.

The message offers the chance to enter into a supposed competition with the chance to win a Weber BBQ.

The message reads: B&Q Father’s Day Contest 2022 and goes on to advertise 5,000 free gas barbeques available to be won by entering a competition by clicking on the link below.

The link includes a photograph taken from the B&Q catalogue of a BBQ set.

B&Q have issued a statement via their facebook page commenting that they "would never ask any of our customers to provide their full home address in order to enter a competition."

According to, a cyberprotection company, by following the link it then asks you three B&Q related questions and then encourages you to share this competition amongst your contacts.

For this reason the intial message is sent from someone on your contact list - making it that much more convincing.

North Wales Police Cyber Crime Unit have said: "Do NOT click the link, report it to 7726 then BLOCK the number."
