AN ONLINE fundraiser page set up to remember a builder from Y Felinheli who died shortly after being diagnosed with cancer has so far raised in excess of £7,500.

David Wyn Jones, affectionately known as “Bubs”, collapsed when he was getting up for work recently.

He was later rushed to hospital, where he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and died aged 49 just 10 days later on June 3.

His brother, John, and friends in the community are raising money for his funeral on June 22, which the current total raised on the website GoFundMe standing at £7,660.

Islwyn Owen, David’s boss for roughly 18 years at the I.M. & D.M. Owen building firm, paid tribute to a friend and colleague he cared for greatly.

Islwyn said: “He was a very hard and conscientious worker. Nobody called him David – everybody called him ‘Bubs’ – that was his name.

“You can see by the tributes on social media that he had a very likeable, infectious personality, and the page shows his popularity, really.

“He never missed you - he’d always have a wave and a chat and something to say every time. He was a really good friend.

“He was just a funny sort of guy – very quick-witted. I knew him before he worked with us, because I worked his father, and he never caused anybody any trouble.”

A post on the GoFundMe page, dated June 4, reads: “Felinheli sadly lost one of its legends this week who was much-loved by all.

“Please can you support Johnny to give his beloved brother Bubs the greatest send-off he so well and truly deserves?”
