A PERSON climbing a mountain in Snowdonia died after falling yesterday (June 2).

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation (OVMRO) said it received a callout at 2.30pm to reports of a fallen climber on Glyder Fach.

The climber was reported as unconscious but was later sadly pronounced dead.

OVRMO said: “A lead climber took a fall on Chasm Route and was reported as unconscious.

“Nearby climbers moved to help and the Coastguard helicopter winched the casualty but sadly she had not survived.

“The climbers then assisted her partner back down the climb to waiting team members and she was looked after at base.

“The team's thoughts are with the casualty’s family, friends and climbing partner, the team would also like to thank the assisting climbers for all their help.”

It was the second callout of the day for OVMRO yesterday, after they had earlier received reports of a walker had found an “unexploded bomb”.

North Wales Police requested that OVMRO provide a clear picture and location to pass on to the Army’s explosive ordnance disposal team.

The informant was able to do this, so no team deployment was necessary.

The ex-soldiers on the team quickly identified it as an old, two-inch smoke bomb.
