A TRAIL run in Snowdonia has been rated the most photographed of its kind in the UK according to Instagram data.

Tryfan is the UK’s most popular trail run, with 35,843 posts per mile, more than spectacular routes such as Reykjadalur in Iceland, Lysløypa in Norway and Ruta del Cares in Spain.

Indeed, the only location worldwide to receive more posts per mile than Tryfan was Emerald Lake in the United States (57,122).

The research, collated by Zalando, analysed 997,757 Instagram posts from the trails listed on Trail Run Project.

The Pyg Track in Snowdonia also made the top 20 worldwide (12th), with 1,401 Instagram posts per mile.

According to the International Track and Field Federation, trail running is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world.

Trail runners looking for a route to explore this spring will be pleased to know that the UK has seven of the top 20 most-photographed trails on Instagram, including the aforementioned two in Snowdonia.

Tryfan is a 3,010 ft peak overlooking Llyn Ogwen lake, one reputed location of the Lady of the Lake from Arthurian legend.

The peak was voted Britain’s favourite in 2014, by readers of Trail magazine.

The Pyg Track is both the shortest route up to Mount Snowdon and one of the most popular routes.

It is steep and rocky in places, so far from an easy run, but does offer some of the best views of Snowdon.
