A BANGOR Tennis Club tournament has raised £300 for a brain tumour foundation.

The Lucy Beesley Shield tournament, an annual event which sees teams from Bangor Tennis Club and Bangor University compete, saw fierce competition as Club members took home the bragging rights.

Lucy Beesley was an Anglesey athlete who battled Glioblastoma Multiforme – an incurable and rare brain tumour – for six years from the age of 19, before passing away aged 25 in 2017.

The final victory on the day was claimed by the club’s captain Kevin Patey, who received the Shield from Lucy’s mother Sue.

Via contributions on the day, £300 was raised for the Tessa Jowell Foundation, which works to improve brain tumour treatment, research and survival.

A Bangor Tennis Club spokesperson said: “Sunshine and blue skies were the order of the day and the turnout was probably the best yet.

“Being played with great spirit, camaraderie and enthusiasm, not to mention consumption of much home-made cake and cheese pie!”
