TWO FUNDRAISERS on a gruelling 968-kilometre trek from London to Tipperary took a breather at the Trearddur Bay Hotel in Holyhead this week.

Kevin Webber and John Crehan, from London, are walking the distance to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK, which Mr Webber was diagnosed with a terminal form of seven years ago.

Given just two years to live, his remarkable strength has exceeded expectations – their JustGiving page also refers to how “Somehow Kev is still here”.

Inspired by the popular marching song 'It's A Long Way To Tipperary’, they decided to give the challenge a go to show what can be achieved in life despite the challenges thrown your way.

The pair set off from Prostate Cancer UK's head office in London on April 19, and trek roughly 20 miles a day.

On Monday, they made their way to the Holyhead hotel as they prepare for the ferry over to Ireland, with walking on water a stretch, even for them.

A Trearddur Bay Hotel spokesperson said: “We get some pretty inspirational guests staying with us and these two are right up there.

“Loads of our guests are travelling to a destination in Ireland.

“But they aren't usually travelling on foot!

“Two really lovely men, who have already hit their target of £15,000 [they have raised £15,203], but we'd love to help them raise even more.”

The duo are being followed on their journey by a film crew (who also stayed at the hotel) who are making a documentary about their exploits.

With more than half their journey complete, it won’t be long before they see the sign for Tipperary on the other side of the Irish Sea.

Welcoming signs to Tipperary reference the song that inspired them, declaring “You've come a long way” – that may be a bit of an understatement.
