THE POPULAR National Garden Scheme starts this week with the first gardens opening in the Gwynedd and Anglesey area on Saturday, 23 April.

Private gardens across the two regions will be opening to the public in an effort to raise funds for well-known cancer and nursing charities.

On Saturday, 23 April, Llanidan Hall in Brynsiencyn, Anglesey will be opening to the public from 10am-4pm, and includes the historic walled garden and the Llanidan church, which is open nearby.

Entry for adults is £4, while children enter for free.

The following day, Maenan Hall in Maenan, Llanrwst will be opening from 10.30am-4.30pm, showcasing its magical gardens full of colour and interest.

With bluebell woods, plants for sale and light refreshments on offer (and the chance to bring your own picnic), it promises to be a wholesome family day out, with adult entry costing £5.

To round off the garden tour in the region, Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens in Menai, Anglesey will be opening to the public on Wednesday, 27 April from 12-5pm.

Tucked away in a secret valley this is a garden paradise with lots of interest, from a walled garden with topiary features to a picturesque valley with waterfalls.

The garden has been lovingly restored over the last 25 years, with a visitor centre and traditional Tea Room completing a visit to the garden.

Entry to Plas Cadnant is £9 for adults.

90 per cent of all proceeds go to a variety of charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Carers Trust and The Queen's Nursing Institute.
