PRIZE-WINNING Welsh author Jon Gower is set to promote his new book at a hotel in Holyhead.

Mr Gower will promote his new publication Cymru o Fri as he join various guests for the event at The Boathouse Hotel, located on Newry Beach, which also aims to raise funds for Ukraine and other charitable causes.

The Welsh author will also read various pieces about Holyhead by Irish author Kerri Ní Dochartaigh from her Wainwright Prize-shortlisted book Thin Places.

Other guests include maritime artist Brian Entwistle, Jules Tattersall (who will provide sea shanties), David Crystal (who will read R.S. Thomas poetry).

The Boathouse Hotel is a social enterprise and eco-hotel, currently being developed by Wild Elements Hospitality into an environmentally sustainable hotel and lively community hub offering provisions that foster community cohesion, improve personal well-being, provide educational opportunities, and promote environmental and social responsibility.

The hotel is a low-carbon choice helping residents, businesses and visitors to Anglesey be more environmentally responsible.

The event also presents the hotel with a chance to showcase their very own cocktail, the Holyhead Hot Toddy, maritime, local, and botanical twist, this treat will be doused with local hive honey in addition to a local, secret ingredient supplied by Jules Cooper, also known as the ‘The Hedgewitch’.

Claudia Howard, Development Manager, said: “As a new social enterprise, we’re delighted that Jon has decided to launch his book.

“It’s wonderful publicity for our Holyhead Hot Toddy, the hotel, our aims, and being able to support Ukrainians and charitable organisations is a bonus!”
