A FUNDRAISER in aid of the homeless and refugees was held by a Bangor interfaith group last weekend.

This was at the Quaker Meeting House on Sunday (March 20) and, as well as a “Pot Luck Supper”, raised £130, while leftover food was donated to a Bangor hostel.

Penny Kemp, who helped organise the event, said: “Our four-person planning team (Gerry, Penny, Mohammed and Reverend Sara) agreed to run the evening along the lines of a Baha'i 19-day feast, with prayers for peace in Ukraine and other world conflicts, followed by news and consultation, shared food, and music.

“After a prayer for humanity, Mohammed spoke to reinforce the point that we are all in fact one family with the earth as one home.

“Pobl i Bobl (organisation founded in response to the beginning of the European refugee crisis) shared news of the support in goods and skills they've sent all around the world, while Reverend Sara explained how funds raised would go towards housing a refugee family locally.

“Over Pot Luck Supper, we shared more stories of help offered and future plans for material and spiritual action, finishing with music from Bethesda's Jazz collective.

“We raised £130 (and) all food left over after the Pot Luck Supper was taken immediately to (Bangor homeless shelter) St Mary’s Hostel a short distance away.”

Penny also thanked Bangor businesses Royal Tandoori, Bangor Tandoori, Bella House, Shahin Kebab House, Zizza Pizza, and Star Kebabs for their donations of food for the event.
