A GALA dinner hosted by YNYS Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has raised more than £3,000 for the Armed Forces Veterans Charity SSAFA.

More than 80 guests attended the event last week at Braids Bistro in Holyhead, Anglesey.

The money was raised from a raffle and an auction overseen by Mrs Crosbie, with lots that sold including a VIP Day at RAF Valley, half a lamb, a photo shoot by Phil Hen Williams and afternoon tea at the House of Lords with Baroness Anne Jenkin.

Afterwards guests were entertained by a talk from Flight Sergeant Dai Lawrence on the RAF’s defining moments during World War II - the Battle of Britain and the iconic Dambusters raid involving the famous 617 Squadron.

The total amount raised was £3,010, which included £225 from the auction of a framed photograph of nine RAF Valley Hawk T2’s flying over South Stack, which was donated by the Directors of South Stack/Ynys Lawd Ltd.

Mrs Crosbie commented: “This dinner was a really entertaining evening and I am delighted we have raised so much for such a wonderful charity that does so much to look after our veterans.

“The generosity of guests was astounding but there were some great lots too with fierce bidding – I really enjoyed being an auctioneer.

“It’s really important I do my bit to help, especially as many have struggled during the pandemic and needed a boost.”
