AN ANGLESEY jewellery shop has pledged to donate a portion of each of its sales in March towards helping those in Ukraine.

“Jaspersparkle”, known predominantly for making rings out of silver spoons, is pledging £5 from each sale this month to the British Red Cross’ Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

It is also holding a competition where those who pay a £5 entry fee will have the chance to win a Blue Agate silver spoon ring worth £100, with the winner to be announced live on Facebook at 7pm on March 31.

So far, they have raised £400 for Ukraine, but Anne Arkle, who has run Jaspersparkle since it launched at the Anglesey Show in 2011, hopes to reach £1,000 by the end of the month.

Her business also recently supported the Daily Mail’s “Mail Force” appeal, where small businesses came up with an innovative way of raising money to help Ukrainian refugees.

Anne said: “Just watching the news, seeing all the horrors happening, it made me realise that it could be us. These people have their own homes, jobs, businesses.

“Even the dilemmas of whether you can take your pets with you, or elderly relatives who may be infirmed… it was really poignant watching men putting their wives and children on trains to get them to safety; they don’t know if they’ll ever see them again.

“I’ve been crying watching the news, and the best we can do is raise money. It all helps, and it keeps it fresh in people’s minds.

“If that money can go directly (to Ukraine), and they can buy those products in Ukraine, that will keep those businesses (in Ukraine) going, too, and their economy will keep going.

“So far, we’ve raised £400. The Daily Mail contacted us, so we donated to them and they gave us a little plug. Hopefully, it will get nearer to £1,000 by the end of the month.

Inspired by a 17th century tradition, when the silver spoon ring was used as a wedding ring, Jaspersparkle transforms such spoons into rings and pendants, using only traditional tools and methods.

Anne also helps make bangles, ensuring each piece is unique, transforming everyday items into stunning jewellery.
