A STRONG swimmer drowned in the sea in a mystery tragedy at a North Wales beauty spot, an inquest heard yesterday (March 2).
Nigel Daly, 72, a retired architect, of Overton Road, Biddulph, Staffordshire, died at Nefyn beach in Gwynedd last September.
Brian Vowles said the scene of the tragedy was a place Mr Daly “loved dearly” and he was a strong swimmer.
They had been swimming together for 15 minutes in the sea but Mr Vowles then got out.
“I turned to pick up a towel and when I turned back, I couldn’t see him,” he said.
Mr Daly was found face down by a lifeboat crew.
Coroner Katie Sutherland, at Caernarfon, recorded a narrative conclusion that he died after becoming immersed in the sea while swimming.
It was not possible to give a reason, she added.
