AN HGV driver has been given a 16 month ban and a £639 fine after pleading guilty to driving a motor vehicle while being above the alcohol limit.

North Wales Police had received reports of erratic driving, including weaving in between the lanes on the A55, and pulled the driver over at the entrance to Holyhead Port, where they provided a roadside reading of 64mg.

The driver later provided a reading of 57mg in custody and was remanded to appear in Caernarfon Crown Court.Speaking after sentencing,

Supt Simon Barrasford said: “Unfortunately we are only too aware of the trauma that can be caused when these wagons are in the wrong hands.

“The actions of our officers prevented such an incident occurring.

"I would like to thank them for locating the HGV and for dealing with the abhorrent and reckless behaviour of the driver.

“I would also like to thank the members of the public who contacted us with their concerns.
