A TAKEAWAY in Gwynedd has been handed a new one-out-of-five food hygiene rating after being told to improve in all three of the areas it was inspected in.

The Golden Cod, a takeaway in Bontnewydd, Caernarfon, was given the score after an assessment in December.

The takeaway’s management of food safety was rated ‘major improvement necessary’ by inspectors.

This concerns the checks in place to ensure that food is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and that the food safety officer had confidence that such standards will be maintained in the future.

The cleanliness and condition of the facilities, and its hygienic handling of food, was given an ‘improvement necessary’ rating.

The former included having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control.

The latter concerned preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

Of Gwynedd's 137 takeaways with ratings, 110 (80 per cent) have ratings of five and none have scores of zero.
