A HOLYHEAD teenager was left needing treatment for severe burns after a house fire.
Firefighters attended the incident shortly before 10.15pm on Tuesday.
It was caused by "careless use" of a burner (similar to that pictured below) - which resulted in a 14-year-old boy needing hospital treatment for severe burns.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service's community safety manager, Mike Plant, said: “The fire involved careless use of a burner similar to that pictured, designed for use with bioethanol.
“It’s important to remember that like candles, oil, incense and bioethanol burners are not just decorative features. Left unattended or used incorrectly, an open flame in your home could easily lead to injury and devastation.
“Always follow the manufacturer instructions, use heat-resistant holders and position away from flammable items. Ensure such items can’t get knocked over and never leave them unattended."
He added: "Ensuring you have a smoke alarm fitted also means that if a fire does occur you have an early warning to help you escape.
“Our thoughts are with this boy and his family and we hope he receives the treatment he needs for a speedy recovery.”
