YNYS Môn MP Virginia Crosbie is distributing a leaflet detailing how residents can support a campaign for more defibrillators on Anglesey.

Having conducted a recent survey, Mrs Crosbie’s office learnt that people in the area would like more life-saving equipment to be made available, while there is also no central map showing the locations of existing ones.

There is also not a central map that shows where they are.

Mrs Crosbie said: “Please do read the leaflet when it comes through your door in the next few weeks and get involved to help improve access to this kit that saves lives.

“A great start for the campaign would be local people telling me where the defibrillators are on Anglesey so that I can work with the Awyr Las project run by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to map them.

“I am also keen to find community champions who see the need for a defibrillator in their area so that I can support them with fundraising to increase the number on Anglesey.

“The brilliant Menter Môn recently announced a programme to put 40 new defibrillators into coastal communities across North Wales, and this is great news, but let’s have our own island campaign to improve the situation.”

Mrs Crosbie also thanked W.O. Jones printers in Llangefni for printing the leaflets and 2 Sisters Food Group in Llangefni for paying for them.

She added: “This amazing generosity means there has been no cost of printing or delivering the leaflet to the taxpayer.”

Defibrillators are usually in brightly coloured boxes mounted outside shops, community centres and other buildings.

These pieces of first aid equipment are designed to be used by members of the public to restart someone’s heart if they have gone into cardiac arrest.

Anyone can use one, but training is recommended.

Mrs Crosbie is also asking people to sign up for a short training course.
