A ‘SPEED interviewing’-style recruitment day designed to boost North Wales’ economy and tourism sector saw dozens of candidates flock to a flagship holiday park.

Multiple roles have been created at Lyons Holiday Parks, who operate 14 parks and two hotels across North Wales and Cumbria, as part of the century-old firm’s plans to expand ahead of the 2022 season.

Set to be a sell-out summer for the third consecutive year following the boom in domestic tourism, the family-run business has released a record-breaking number of roles across all departments from grounds and gardens, hospitality, sales, administrative support, front-of-house, and tradespeople.

The unique recruitment day, held at Lyons Robin Hood in Rhyl on January 18, consisted of ‘speed interviewing’-style sessions whereby candidates could drop-in, ask questions, and “really get a feel for what it’s like working for the largest holiday park operator in Wales”.

The call for an influx of employees comes as company bosses project another ‘hit summer’ due to fears surrounding foreign travel because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Joseph Lyons Mound, one of the company directors, said: “This summer is set to be another big hit for the tourism industry.

“As much as we’re all trying to move on from the past two years, and get back to ‘normal’, there’s no denying that people are still apprehensive about travelling abroad.

“We’re projecting another busy summer here at Lyons Holiday Parks, which we hope will match last season, the busiest we’ve had on record for both holidays and holiday home sales.

“This boom, alongside the fact that we’re continuing to expand as a company and acquiring more sites and parks, calls for a huge intake of team across Denbighshire, Flintshire, and Conwy.”

The most recent additions to the Lyons group’s portfolio include Dyserth Falls, formerly known as Graig Parc, where the construction team are seeking tradespeople to complete the works on time.

Mr Lyons Mound added: “The entire revamp of Dyserth Falls will require a lot of time, investment, and energy.

“We’re already there with the first two, but what we really need now is dedicated groundsmen, builders, joiners and general labourers to hit the ground running and help us revive the resort and spa back to the iconic place it used to be.

“We want this to be a destination location near the coast, and we want more than anything to be able to say that the graft came from locals who have roots with the area, and who can share in our success once it’s completed.”

The group, which began as a holiday park operator in 1925, is ever-expanding, and the company directors highlight that there will “always be work for those who want it” due to the number of projects both ongoing and in the pipeline.

Nikki Rathie, head of operations for the Lyons group, said the recruitment drive is “all about reinvesting in the local talent that’s rife on the North Wales coast”.

She added: “As well as the construction side of things, we’re also calling all trainee lifeguards, bar team, cleaners, sales administrators, hotel operatives and front-of-house team to help us deliver a knock-out summer again this year.

“We’re proud to have retained 160 permanent team members throughout the first lockdown of 2020, and to have taken even more team on board in 2021. We’re keen to welcome even more people into our already 400+ workforce.

“The company benefits we offer, such as accommodation packages, discounted gym membership, deals and discounts at local attractions and venues, plus internal and external qualifications and development opportunities, goes to show that looking after your team is how you become one of the strongest workforces in the region.

“We’re proud to be a place where passionate people can shine.”

A second recruitment day will be held on Saturday, January 22 at Lyons Robin Hood.

Drop-in candidates are welcome from 12-5pm, with no experience or documentation necessary.
