PUPILS of Ysgol Rhosgadfan in Caernarfon made 2021 a year to remember with their involvement in the Ynys Blastig (‘Plastic Island’) Project.

Ynys Blastig is an arts initiative which aims to promote environmental well-being and discourage the use of plastic.

In taking part, school pupils aged between five and 11 created their own adaptation of one of the Mabinogi stories, aptly named Blot-deuwedd.

Following the success of the film, it was showed to a worldwide audience at the Cop 26 Conference in Glasgow in October last year.

To celebrate the film’s success closer to home, the school has organised a community premiere for pupils’ parents in Galeri, Caernarfon that will take place on Friday 21st January 2022.

Ysgol Rhosgadfan Headteacher Judith Owen praised the project, saying: “Being able to take part in this type of project has been an unforgettable experience for pupils and teachers alike.

“The initial seed has fully evolved here and continues to thrive and bloom. We are extremely grateful to Ynys Blastig and everyone involved with the project.”

Iola Ynyr, on behalf of Ynys Blastig project, added: “’Blot-deuwedd’ is a film which celebrates the relationship between the arts and the environment and rooted in Welsh culture.

“Ynys Blastig takes pride in Ysgol Rhosgadfan’s success in promoting individual, community and environmental well-being through creativity.”

Attendance to the premiere is by invitation only, with numbers limited to 50.

The Member of Parliament for Arfon, Hywel Williams, will also attend.
