A Snapchat user who persuaded a girl stranger aged 13 to send him intimate images had then taken screenshots and shared them, a court heard.

Judge Niclas Parry at Mold crown court said: "Once again this is a case that underlines the vulnerability of young people caused by easy access to social media.”

Jailing Carl Williams, aged 23, of Dinam Road, Caergeiliog, Anglesey, for 18 months, the judge said he “groomed” the girl before asking for naked snaps.

It was “disgraceful and extremely serious” that he took the screenshots and Williams had “total disregard for her personal wishes and dignity.”

The victim had been ridiculed by friends.

Judge Parry accepted that Williams was truly remorseful but he had failed to comply with previous community orders.

A sexual harm prevention order was imposed and he must register as a sex offender for ten years.

Prosecuting counsel Maria Masselis said police were alerted in March last year by the child’s mother. Williams had started to message the girl and told her she was beautiful before the offence occurred. The victim had nightmares following her ordeal.

Williams pleaded guilty to inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He had a conditional caution as a youth for a similar matter, the court heard.

Ember Wong, defending, said Williams was “ashamed, embarrassed and very sorry for his actions.” He had a “difficult” childhood and wanted to change and become a lorry driver, she added.
