Council chiefs on Anglesey have spoke of their concern after the island recorded its highest ever number of Covid-19 cases on a single day.

Tuesday saw the island’s Test, Trace and Protect team record 99 positive cases, up from 92 on Monday, which follows a pattern of a very high number of cases over the past three months.

“This is very concerning as we’re seeing cases in towns and communities across the Island and in the majority of age groups,” said the council leader, Llinos Medi.

“Anglesey deserves huge credit for sticking to the rules and protecting its communities.

“Christmas is fast approaching and to make sure we have a better Christmas than last year, we must take every precaution to protect ourselves, friends and families from this virus.

“The last 20 months have been tough for everyone, but by looking after each other, we can hope for a much better New Year.

“It is important that we all continue to follow Welsh Government guidance.”

With well over 1,433 cases having been recorded over the month of November, figures have shot dramatically since July.

As a result anyone showing symptoms is urged to visit the walk-in and drive-through testing centre at Anglesey County Council staff Car  Park in Llangefni, opposite ATS Euromaster,

An appointment for a test can be made by visiting https://gov.wales/get-tested-coronavirus-covid-19 or by phoning 119.

Free Lateral Flow tests are also available in Anglesey’s leisure centres and libraries for anyone to collect.

Among other advice being offered is:

·         Take-up the offer of the vaccine – it’s never too late to get the jab

·         Attend Covid–19 booster appointments – when eligible, you will be invited by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board

·         Self-isolate and arrange a test straight away by calling 119 or online if you develop Covid–19 symptoms

·         Follow advice provided by Anglesey’s Test, Trace and Protect team – if they contact you because you are a close contact of a confirmed case, arrange a test to help stop the spread

·         Always wear a mask when you visit shops or any indoor public places

·         Limit contact with large groups of people as much as possible, and if you do decide to attend a gathering, consider taking a lateral flow test before and after you do so

·         Take regular lateral flow tests, even if you do not have symptoms

·         Meet other people outdoors, if possible, as this is safer than indoors.
