ANGLESEY has seen a significant increase in COVID-19 cases in recent days, prompting calls for communities to be vigilant.

Anglesey’s Track, Trace and Protect Team recorded more than 250 positive cases between Monday, November 22 and Thursday, November 25.

November has already seen the island surpass more than 1,000 positive tests and could reach the highest number of cases recorded - in a single month - since the pandemic began.

Isle of Anglesey County Council is now working with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to increase capacity at the COVID-19 testing centre currently located in Llangefni.

Council leader, Councillor Llinos Medi, is urging residents to take extra care to protect themselves, their families and communities.

Cllr Medi said: “Our Test, Trace and Protect team have seen a significant increase in the number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the last few days.

“Yesterday (November 24) alone, they recorded 75 positive cases on the island.

“This is very concerning as we’re seeing cases in towns and communities across the island and in the majority of age groups.

“Anglesey deserves huge credit for sticking to the rules and protecting its communities.

“Christmas is fast approaching and to make sure we have a better Christmas than last year, we must take every precaution to protect ourselves, friends and families from this virus.

“The last 20 months have been tough for everyone, but by looking after each other, we can hope for a much better new year.

“It is important that we all continue to follow Welsh Government guidance.”

Anglesey residents are being urged to:

• Take up the offer of the vaccine – it’s never too late to get the jab.

• Attend COVID -19 booster appointments – when eligible, you will be invited by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.

• Self-isolate and arrange a test straight away by calling 119 or online at: gov.wales/get-tested-coronavirus-covid-19 if you develop COVID-19 symptoms.

• Follow advice provided by Anglesey’s Test, Trace and Protect team – if they contact you because you are a close contact of a confirmed case, arrange a test to help stop the spread.

• Always wear a mask when you visit shops or any indoor public places.

• Limit contact with large groups of people as much as possible, and if you do decide to attend a gathering, consider taking a lateral flow test before and after you do so.

• Take regular lateral flow tests, even if you do not have symptoms.

• Meet other people outdoors, if possible, as this is safer than indoors.

Anglesey's COVID-19 testing centre – for those displaying symptoms - will be in Llangefni until December 1.

The testing centre is located at the council car park, and can be accessed via the Industrial Estate Road, opposite ATS Euromaster, LL77 7AW.

The site is open from 9.30am – 4.30pm until November 30, and from 9.30am - 4pm on December 1.

An appointment for a test can be made by visiting the Welsh Government website (bcuhb.nhs.wales/covid-19/book-a-covid-19-test) or by phoning 119.

Free lateral flow tests are also available in Anglesey’s leisure centres and libraries for anyone to collect.
