PULL on the trainers, don the antlers and get ready for Anglesey’s first ever Reindeer Run.

RNLI volunteers are calling on supporters in North Wales to do their bit and join the fun to help raise vital funds.

The family friendly event will take place on Saturday, December 4 at Anglesey Showground, offering two distances so that supporters of all ages can join in the fun.

The charity is looking for 'reindeer runners' to sign up for a 5k fun run or 1km Santa Saunter.

Andy Hodgson, volunteer Helm at Trearddur Bay RNLI, said: "The Reindeer Run is more important than ever this year. We always have to be ready in case the pagers go at Christmas, but it’s a big boost to know that reindeer runners have been giving their support – especially at this busy time of year – and making sure the RNLI can continue to launch to those in trouble.

"It can be hard on our family and friends if we disappear halfway through Christmas dinner, but the sea and the dangers it can bring never takes a holiday, so nor can we.

"Fundraising events are our own call for help, as we rely on the generosity of the public to fund our rescues and the kit that helps keep the crews safe in any weather."

All reindeer runners and 'Santa Saunters' must register for the Anglesey RNLI Reindeer Run by November 30. On the day-entries will not be able to take part.

Rookie the Reindeer and his RNLI helpers will be there at the finishing line ready to present a festive medal to all who takes part in the challenge.

Last year, RNLI lifeboats on Anglesey launched 105 times as the volunteer crew assisted 103 people and saved eight lives – rescues which were only possible because of the donations made to the charity by supporters.

Anyone unable to attend Anglesey’s RNLI Reindeer Run can hold their own virtual event. They can create their own RNLI Reindeer Run with friends and family, dress up and run around their neighbourhood or hit the treadmill in front of their tv.
