A GWYNEDD MS has received cross-party approval on his campaign against HSBC Bank’s new charges for charities.

Mabon ap Gwynfor, the Plaid Cymru MS for Dwyfor Meirionnydd, made a statement in the Senedd criticising HSBC’s plans to charge community groups to use their bank accounts.

HSBC intends to transfer all holders of their Club and Community Account to the new Charitable Bank Account, which charges an annual fee of £60, plus a fee for banking and other transactions.

Politicians from Plaid Cymru, Labour and the Conservatives have backed Mr ap Gwynfor’s call condemning HSBC and asking the business to overturn their decision.

Former Welsh Government economy minister, Ken Skates, has also thrown his support behind the campaign.

In his statement Mr ap Gwynfor said: “I am sure you will agree with me that community groups, clubs and small charities play a vital role in supporting our communities.

“During the recent challenging period, they have stepped up to support our most vulnerable residents despite the dangers and sacrifices demanded of themselves and their families.

“Going forward, it is vital that we enable and support the continuation of their activity in our communities to enable us all to adapt and succeed.

“Will you join me in protecting the interests of these vital small clubs, groups and charities and support my statement asking HSBC to rethink its decision?”

Mabon ap Gwynfor MS and Liz Saville Roberts, MP for Dwyfor Meirionnydd, have launched a petition calling on HSBC to reverse their decision.
