A LLANGEFNI church is set to reveal the installation of a new stained glass window, generously donated by the award-winning artist Susan Bradbury.

Following the passing of her father Peter, the artist decided to celebrate her father’s life by crafting a piece of art in stained glass and donating the work to St Cyngar’s church, where Peter and his wife Mavis worshipped.

The piece centres around the biblical creation story, using glass and light to create a vibrant depiction of the first animals, plants and people as told in the book of Genesis.

An open day will be held between 1pm and 4pm on Sunday, October 24 for people to come and view the window.

When asked about the inspiration for the piece, Susan said: “Local people who knew my father would probably remember an old, blind man, but when he was younger, he was a photographer.

“He was a creative person who inspired me to become an artist, so I themed the design around creation and light.”

As a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the British Society of Master Glass Painters, Susan Bradbury is a well-recognised creator of stained glass artwork.

She was jointly awarded the Saltire Award for Art in Architecture in 1999 and her work can be found in locations such as Durham County Cricket Club and Sherbrooke St Gilbert’s Church, Glasgow, as well as in several other churches, institutes and hospitals across the UK.

The creation of new stained glass work for churches is rare, due to the cost and complexity of such an installation.

The donation of such a work to St Cyngar’s at no cost to the church has been praised by the parish's vicar, Reverend Stephen Leyland, as ‘exceptionally generous’.
