YNYS Môn MP Virginia Crosbie met with representatives from the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester today (October 5).
The group discussed some of the key issues facing deaf children, including the challenges they’ve faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and how schools can support them effectively during the new academic year.
They also talked about British sign language.
Jo Campion, deputy director at the NDCS, said: “It was really good to meet Virginia and explain some of the challenges deaf children have been facing because they’ve been seriously affected during the pandemic.
“Meetings like this give us the chance to explain the key issues directly to MPs and move closer towards a world without barriers for every deaf child.”
Out of the approximately 50,000 deaf children in the UK, roughly 160 of them are found in Gwynedd and Anglesey, while three babies are born deaf in the UK every day.
