YNYS Môn MP Virginia Crosbie hosted a Westminster roundtable of major nuclear industry players as she continues to push Anglesey’s Wylfa Newydd power station as a site for new reactors in the UK.

The event, which was part of Nuclear Week, brought together companies such as Westinghouse and Bechtel, along with cross-party MPs, peers, a representative from the US Embassy, and officials from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

Others present were the Nuclear Industry Association and other nuclear-focused bodies.

There was a live link to the new AP1000 Vogtle nuclear power station site in Georgia in the United States to speak to the project director.

Mrs Crosbie said: “This was an amazing way to kick off Nuclear Week and I am delighted so many high-level companies, bodies and experts joined the roundtable.

“If we are to meet our 2035 climate change commitment, the UK urgently needs to replace its nuclear power, and this meeting shows there remains widespread support in the industry and at government level to achieve this.

“Anglesey is vital if these ambitions are to be met and this summer, I have hosted Bechtel, Westinghouse and Rolls-Royce on the island to look at the infrastructure we have to make this a reality and bring jobs and investment to its inhabitants.

“I remain very hopeful that, by working together, we can see this nuclear investment come to Wylfa Newydd. It remains the prime site because of its ability to house both big and small reactors.

"My job now is to continue to make this case through events like this and by continuing to talk to all the major players.

“I would like to thank everyone for coming.”
