CAERNARFON residents aged 55 or older have been invited to try yoga at a free taster class this month.

The session takes place at Byw’n Iach Arfon leisure centre in Caernarfon on Thursday, September 9 at 1pm, and is part of ‘First Time for Everything’, a programme designed by the Royal Voluntary Service and supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The programme gives people an opportunity to try something new for free in their community. Staying active and social have been proven to be important to keeping fit and well as people age.

Healthy light refreshments will be served after the event.

According to new research by the Royal Voluntary Service and supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, 46 per cent of respondents in Wales aged 55 or older said they look forward to getting out and about as restrictions ease.

Nearly one in five are also looking forward to being active or doing some exercise, meanwhile.

Laura Chow, head of charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “First Time for Everything activities are a safe, gentle and enjoyable way to boost physical and mental health and wellbeing, particularly for those that are older or less mobile.

“Thanks to the players of People’s Postcode Lottery, local people can look forward to some great sessions.”

Booking for the free yoga taster class is essential as places are limited.
