Members of the Beaumaris Lifeboat team helped a fishing boat in Anglesey on Saturday evening after its engine had been cutting out due to fuel issues.

At 8.24pm on Saturday, August 21, the volunteer crew members of the Beaumaris Lifeboat received a page from the UK Coastguard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at Holyhead relating to a report of a small fishing vessel in apparent difficulty.

Exactly ten minutes later, the Beaumaris Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat, Annette Mary Liddington, launched with her volunteer crew aboard, and proceeded to the area to commence a search.

It was reported that the fishing boat was drifting towards Plas Menai from the direction of the Victoria dock in Caernarfon.

In addition to the lifeboat, the Penmon Mobile Coastguard unit had been requested to attend ashore on the Anglesey side of the Menai Strait.

The lifeboat located the fishing boat with two occupants aboard, on the mainland side of the straits opposite the Anglesey Sea Zoo.

The engine on the vessel had been cutting out due to a fuel starvation problem, but was now working.

The lifeboat escorted the craft back to a slipway just south of Caernarfon, where she was recovered on to her road trailer.

Once this had been completed, the lifeboat was released from the service by the UK Coastguard to return to her Beaumaris station, arriving at 10pm to be refuelled and cleaned under the current COVID-19 instructions.
