A summer campaign urging people to act responsibly while in Anglesey will take its key messages out on the road this week.

The Isle of Anglesey County Council’s ‘Rediscover Anglesey Safely’ movement applies to everyone and encourages people to enjoy their visit or day out, while behaving sensibly to maintain the safety of both themselves and those around them.

Anglesey Council has commissioned Communicorp Ltd to provide the iVan service for the next two weeks – likely to be one of the summer’s busiest holiday periods as staycations on the island reach an all-time high.

The iVan will be using its three large screen and Dolby Sound to highlight key messages in popular visitor areas and where residents may head for a day out, and will be taking its messages across Anglesey between August 9 - 22.

Video messages can be changed at the click of a button, ensuring that they are relevant to the location, time of day and audience.

The iVan will target specific locations around Anglesey - a combination of high footfall areas including popular tourist locations and beach car parks – with important safety and public health messaging.

The council is being supported by partners and emergency services, who are also providing key safety messages to be shown on the iVan.

Economic development and tourism portfolio holder, Councillor Carwyn Jones, said: “This summer has been the busiest we’ve ever seen as thousands of visitors come to the island to enjoy its fantastic beaches and stunning natural landscape.

“We want everyone who comes to Anglesey, or lives here, to enjoy themselves, but also be responsible and respectful at all times.

“Our Rediscover Anglesey Safely campaign urges everyone to show care and consideration to their surroundings and others, including the many staff members right across the island trying to make their visit both safe and enjoyable.

“Coronavirus has not gone away and we all - visitors and locals alike - have an important role to play in protecting our own health, and the safety of others.”

“The iVan will help us to take key messages to many popular places on Anglesey, including some of our most popular and busy beaches.

“This will help amplify those key safety and public health messages we are already sharing through other channels, including our social media accounts and local community radio.”

Visitors to Anglesey are also being reminded to research and familiarise themselves with Welsh Government COVID-19 rules before travelling. These rules may be different from the area they have travelled from.

You should not travel to Anglesey if you are awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test or displaying symptoms. This also applies to residents travelling off the island.
