Lobsters at Anglesey Sea Zoo were filmed being released into the wild on Saturday for an upcoming television series.

The juvenile lobsters will be featured on the ‘Britain’s Secret Islands’ documentary, which is set to air at the end of 2021.

Anglesey Sea Zoo rear and release European lobsters as part of the Lobster Hatchery of Wales conservation programme.

A post on the zoo’s Facebook page said: “Our little lobsters were the stars of the show and got an extra special farewell from a film crew as they made their way out to sea.

“We are very excited that the lobsters, and many of our other animals from our conservation programmes, will be featured on the ‘Britain’s Secret Islands’ TV series at the end of the year. Good luck to our little lobsters!

Financed jointly between Anglesey Sea Zoo and Objective 1 funding, The Lobster Hatchery of Wales has three main aims:

• To improve the yearly output of juveniles, in order to maintain or improve current populations.

• To provide an educational and informative exhibit about all stages of the lobster life cycle, the hatchery setup and the fishery.

• To provide a site where further research can be undertaken, looking at ways to improve husbandry, releasing and monitoring techniques.

The zoo itself boasts more than 40 tanks of marine wildlife from across the coasts of the UK, including octopuses, lobsters, seahorses, conger eels and jellyfish.

It is currently open to visitors with COVID-19 safety measures in place, with no need to pre-book.
