A POLICE investigation has been launched into the shooting of livestock animals on Anglesey.

The first incident involving a calf is believed to have happened on land in the area of Menai Bridge, sometime between 4pm on Monday, July  and 4pm on Tuesday, July 27.

The calf that was shot in the eye was seriously injured, but is expected to survive, North Wales Police said.

The second incident involving two rams is understood to have happened in the Llangefni area sometime between Monday, July 26 and the afternoon of Wednesday, July 28.

A crossbow is believed to have been used to shoot both rams, which have also been seriously injured.

PC Matthew Raymond said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed these incidents, or has any information, to come forward to assist with our investigation.

“From the farmer’s experience, it’s likely the rams were shot with a crossbow, rather than an air rifle which would have created a more of a cleaner and deeper wound.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact the western rural crime team on 101, or via the live web chat, quoting reference 21000528948.
