Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has passed her Welsh language exam with flying colours after posting a score of 95 per cent.

The MP vowed to learn the language when she was elected and, today, she was told she had passed the Entry Level Welsh for Adults speaking test.

“I am really pleased to pass this exam and the certificate will take pride of place in my home here on the island,” said Mrs Crosbie.

“It was quite a juggle attending lessons while doing my job but I felt it was incredibly important that I learn the language many of my constituents speak as their first language.

“I would like to thank the teams at Bangor University and Nant Gwrtheyrn for getting me through the exam and giving such an appreciation of this beautiful and vibrant language.”

Mrs Crosbie, who is half Welsh, is a big advocate for the Welsh language and uses it regularly when she speaks in the House of Commons, including to the Prime Minister, when she referred to him as Prif Weinidog.

She also uses it in her Môn FM radio slot and in her regular Holyhead Mail articles.

The MP also vowed to continue her Welsh language learning by taking the foundation level course.
