Arfon MS Siân Gwenllian thanked Gwynedd food share scheme volunteers for their "selfless work"

The Plaid Cymru politician visited the food share scheme in Cwm-y-glo and Llanrug.

The scheme is run by members of Llanrug and Cwm-y-Glo Community Council and volunteers. It is part of the Fareshare scheme, which takes quality surplus food from the food industry and distributes it to community groups and charities.

The Fareshare scheme has received a grant from the Welsh Government, and has been operating in Llanrug and Cwm-y-Glo since November 2020.

Siân Gwenllian MS represents the area in the Senedd, and said it was "a privilege to visit such a hard-working and compassionate team"

Councillor Berwyn Parry Jones represents Cwm-y-glo on Gwynedd Council, and is part of the food share scheme.

He said: "We are fortunate to receive 85kg of food every Friday, and the type of food varies from week to week.

“The van arrives at Bangor, and we go over to collect the food.

“That is also where the Partneriaeth Ogwen’s food share and Bangor food sharing schemes get their food.

“After delivering the food to Ysgol Cwm-y-glo in the morning, local volunteers distribute the food on the tables and put the meats in the fridge.

“Later in the afternoon the Community Council volunteers distribute the food to bags for families, couples, and individuals.

"The food packages are then distributed to local households affected by Covid-19 within the boundaries of the Community Council."

Mrs Gwenllian said: "Many schemes have come to existence across the constituency over the last year, and they all reflect the duty of care that local people feel towards each other.

“In a year plagued with bad news, the work of these schemes is inspiring.

“These people make a real difference in their communities

"I would like to thank all those volunteers for their selfless work."
