WELSH rugby players have backed a bid for Conwy county to become the UK City of Culture.
Leigh Halfpenny, Jonathan Davies and coach Wayne Pivac were pictured by the River Conwy in support of Conwy County Borough Council’s (CCBC) bid for the prestigious cultural status in the 2025.
“Thanks to WRU players Jonathan Davies, Leigh Halfpenny and Head Coach Wayne Pivac for their support today as Conwy County Borough Council prepares to bid for UK City of Culture 2025,” a social media post by CCBC said.
This is the first time that clusters of towns can vie for the award, which is currently held by Coventry, as part of a plan to open it up to more parts of the UK.
Conwy is the “flagship” town in CCBC's expression of interest, while the TV and internet fame of Gwyrch Castle and Llandudno goats are hoped to sway the judges.
