Work on a new children’s play area at Holyhead’s Breakwater Country Park has begun.

The new play area, which is to be located next to the brick shed, will provide a range of activities for children of all ages and abilities. Planning permission was recently secured by the County Council’s Regulation and Economic Development Service.

The new play area should be open by the start of the school summer holidays.

Anglesey’s Economic Development and Major Projects Portfolio Holder, Councillor Carwyn Jones, said: “I’m delighted to see that the work of developing a new play area in the beautiful Breakwater Country Park is getting underway.”

He added: “This development will encourage more visitors, local children and families to the area and I’m sure they will enjoy all the Country Park and Holy Island has to offer.”

The Holyhead Breakwater Country Park was opened in 1990 and is situated on the site of an old quarry which supplied stone for the 2.39km (1.5 miles) Holyhead Breakwater, the longest in Europe, which was built between 1846 and 1873. Part of the park is situated within Anglesey’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
