Ynys Môn MS Rhun ap Iorwerth has welcomed news of a cash boost for an Anglesey landmark.

Responding to the news that the Anglesey Column Trust have been awarded £872,800 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to repair and renovate the Marquess of Anglesey’s Column and cottage, Rhun ap Iorwerth,said: “I’m delighted to hear that the Anglesey Column Trust have secured this Heritage Lottery grant to restore the Marquess’ Column.

"This is the culmination of years of their hard work, and I’m glad to have been able to offer my support to the team throughout the grant application process."

He added: “I can’t wait for this exciting project to come to fruition and see the column open to visitors once again - I have fond memories of climbing the column’s winding stairs as a child!

"This, and the new visitor centre, shop and café will be a welcome addition to our local heritage attractions on the island.”
