Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has welcomed GP reinforcements at the Hwb Iechyd Cybi practice in Holyhead following concerns patients could not get an appointment.

The MP was contacted by local people saying they were waiting too long to see or speak to a doctor and she met with the practice on several occasions to discuss the issue and a way forward.

The surgery announced two new GPs will start in August with a third GP starting in January 2022.

It said it will continue to try and recruit more medics and it is using regular GP locums who know the area and the patients.

A new telephone system – able to handle 1000 calls a day - has also been put in place.

“This is excellent news and I would like to thank everyone involved in making sure the practice has more GPs and better systems so that patients can have more confidence one is available to see or speak to them,” said Mrs Crosbie.

“In the meetings, I expressed my concerns on behalf of the constituents and I was really pleased that those brought in to help knew the problems and were seeking solutions.

“There is a challenge at the moment in recruiting GPs, not just in North Wales but nationally, so against this background, I think the practice has done well.

“I would also like to thank Ffion Johnstone, the Area Director for the West of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) for her help in this matter.”

Previously, Hwb Iechyd Cybi was the Cambria and Longford surgeries but they merged during the pandemic.
