Six of Anglesey’s beaches (Benllech, Church Bay, Llanddona, Llanddwyn, Porth Dafarch and Trearddur Bay) have been named as some of the best in Wales, by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy.

With Coronavirus restrictions easing and the tourism sector beginning to re-open in Wales, people can look forward to planning day trips and staycations this summer. Anyone visiting Anglesey can be sure that they are enjoying some of the cleanest, safest, and very best beaches in the country.

Anglesey is blessed with a number of sandy beaches around the Island, which are great for bathing, paddling, beach combing and walking. The Blue Flag beaches offer amenities including toilets and car parking and are also close enough for people to visit local villages and nearby towns.

The Blue Flag Awards, Seaside Awards and Green Coast Awards are run in Wales by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy.

The coast awards play a vital role in protecting our precious marine environment and are recognised around the world as a symbol of quality. From popular resorts to hidden gems, all award-winning beaches must meet and maintain the highest environmental standards and achieve tough international bathing water quality targets.

Keep Wales Tidy’s Chief Executive, Lesley Jones said, “We are lucky to have some of the world’s best beaches on our doorstep. The success of the above beaches are a testament to everyone who has worked so hard to protect and improve our beaches and keep our waters clean.

“With local services under immense pressure due to Coronavirus, we all needed to pull together to look after our natural environment. We hope that visitors returning to our stunning coastline will cherish it more than ever and enjoy our beaches responsibly. Please make sure you make memories, not mess and take your litter home with you.”

Anglesey’s Economic Development and Major Projects portfolio holder, Councillor Carwyn Jones, added, “I’m delighted that our Island has retained its six Blue Flag beaches. They are a real jewel in the Island’s crown and attract thousands of visitors every year.”

“Our beaches compare favourably to any you will see throughout Wales and Britain, and play a big part in our tourism offering. As local residents, our beaches also mean so much to us and play a big part in our way and enjoyment of life."
