THE MP for Ynys Môn visited RAF Valley to show her support for the armed services and meet apprentices undertaking highly skilled training.

The base, which is home to some of the RAF’s training squadrons, is the second biggest employer on Anglesey and apprentices from companies such as BAE Systems and Babcock learn their skills there.

Virginia Crosbie MP, who is a member of the Parliamentary Armed Forces Scheme, was shown around by Valley’s commander Group Captain Andy Turk.

“It is always a pleasure to visit Valley but this time there was the added bonus of getting the chance to speak to some apprentices from the island who are learning high tech skills on their doorsteps,” said Mrs Crosbie.

“It is vitally important we have highly skilled jobs on the island so our young people can stay. This is not just an economic issue either. It is important for the Welsh language and culture that people born on Anglesey are able to stay on Anglesey.

“As this island’s MP, making sure investment and jobs come to Ynys Môn is my biggest priority.

“Many thanks to Group Captain Turk and his team for inviting me. I aim to be a regular visitor.”

Group Captain Turk said: “RAF Valley was delighted to host our MP on Thursday which allowed us to update her on how we have continued to progress essential training throughout the pandemic, delivering aircrew to the frontline safely and on time.

“Our whole force enjoyed the opportunity to talk through the vital roles they undertake and to ask her questions on many matters of interest.

"We are extremely grateful for the support we get from the Anglesey community and look forward to welcoming more visitors back to RAF Valley."
