A BREWERY near Chester has been given the green light to extend its village base.

Weetwood Ales, a multi-award-winning brewery and distillery in Kelsall, says the extension to its existing site will be used for storing barrels.

The full planning application was rubber stamped by Cheshire West and Chester Council yesterday (April 21).

The family-owned and run brewery on Common Lane produces both "premium quality" beers – including Eastgate Ale and Cheshire Cat – and numerous spirits.

In a report recommending approval, case officer Robert Lester said: "The proposed extension to the brewery would support and enhance an existing commercial use in this countryside location and is acceptable in principle.

"The extension would harmonise with the scale and design of the existing building and would not harm the character of the area.

"There would also be no impact on highway safety, amenity, site drainage, biodiversity or trees. Planning permission is therefore approved."
